Invent the Future is an ideas contest about sustainability – any aspect of sustainability – ideally with a connection to energy conservation. For instance, you might have an idea for new product packaging that reduces waste and the need to recycle, thereby saving energy through the elimination of the recycling process.

Pre-Cycling: Practical Tips

(from the Edmonton Journal )
o  Don't buy pre-packaged produce.
o  Avoid all disposable products.
o  Pack your own lunch in reusable containers.
o  Carry a travel mug.
o  Avoid the paper versus plastic dilemma.
o  Buy large single containers to store non-perishable foods you use regularly such as cereals and grains. Put manageable amounts in reusable, smaller containers for everyday use.
o  Skip Styrofoam.
o  Compare the size of the package to the size of the product.
o  Buy fruit and vegetables loose.
o  Take your laptop or hand-held device with you to meetings to record notes electronically.
o  Do all your banking and pay bills online.
o  Eliminate junk mail.
